Spring 2008

REM

Simon has been travelling around Europe with REM performing a run of promotional shows in Milan, Paris and London. Exclusive shows for MTV, Apple, Xfm, Radio 1 as well as some high profile TV shows in Milan and Paris. The shows have been a mix of two to three song ‘basic’ performances through to full eighteen track sets.

Drummer Bill Rieflin uses vintage Gretsch shells, Paiste cymbals, Remo coated emperors and Regal tip sticks. The drum sizes are 22x14B, 13x9T, 16x16F (x2). Snare wise it is a Ludwig black beauty 14x6.5. The drums have some cool ‘customisations’ the most important being the combination of diecast hoops on the resonant sides with triple flanged hoops on the batter side. This combination allows for a very open yet focused sound from the drums.

Bill’s playing is top drawer and should not be missed should you get the opportunity. The bands new album ‘Accelerator’ is a great advert for seemingly simple parts which in truth are very well thought out, extremely musical and with nothing other than a focus on benefiting the song. Be sure to grab a copy and look out for Bill and the band on tour this summer.

LDC in the studio

We’ve been busy around London over the past few months with various clients keeping us busy. Ian Thomas has been in Olympic Studios with Eric Clapton recording a new album. Ralph Salmins, Neal Wilkinson and Geoff Dugmore have been working at various studios around the Capital as well as Jerry Brown and Mark Richardson who have both been working with their regular gigs Girls Aloud and Feeder.

Our artist centre contracts have kept the boys at LDC very busy! We’ve been prepping kits for Jojo Mayer, Thomas Lang, Gareth Brown, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Turisas, MSI, Sola Akinbola, Matt Tong (Bloc Party) and Steve Smith.
