Artist Update March/AprilBiffy Clyro
Simon was in the studio with Biffy Clyro for a few days. This was a really great session to be involved with. Garth Richardson was producing (Rage Against the Machine, Skunk Anansie to name but two) and really was a pleasure to work with. They had very specific requests for the sound of the drums we used. We brought Ben down a Pearl Masters series MMX, 4-ply maple shell kit with 24x18 bass drum, 13x10 tom, 16x16 and 18x16 floor toms and a few different snare drums. We mainly used an Eric Singer signature snare drum for both its natural volume and ‘crack’ but with its thick maple shell there is still a lot of warmth in the sound – an ideal rock drum. LDC News RoundupWe’ve predominantly been working in and around London at various recording and rehearsal studios recently. We continue to be busy with the studio ‘regulars’ including Ian Thomas and Ralph Salmins
We’ve had kits out with touring bands as well. Billy Talent, Alexisonfire and Hinder have had kits from LDC for their respective UK and European tours. We supplied Steve Smith, Jack DeJohnette and Tal Bergmann (Loreena McKennitt) with Sonor kits through our exclusive agreement with Sonor drums to service their artist roster. We have supplied Tony Allen (the good, the bad and the queen), Dave Baynton-Power (James) with new Pearl kits through our continued work with Pearl and their endorsers. Our trade sales service has continued to be busy supplying some of the country's leading bands, production companies and drummers with all the spares, sticks, drumheads and more that they require. Steve Hewitt (Placebo), Julian Chambers (Lemar), Harry Judd (McFly) and Andy Treacey (Faithless) are just a few of the guys we’ve been working with in the last couple of months. For those that have not yet seen it, check out VH1’s ‘Live at Abbey Road’ series. And you'll see one of our Masters kits being used by Chad with the Chili Peppers!
