Jan/Feb 2007 Artist Update
It’s been a crazy start to 2007 for us here at LDC! We’ve been busy in and around the capital’s studios with drummers including Pete Lewinson, Ian Thomas, Ralph Salmins, Jerry Brown and Neal Wilkinson… Ralph Salmin at Abbey Road
Above is an image of Ralph Salmin’s US Maple shell Gretsch kit at Abbey Road Studios, St. Johns Wood (Studio 1). He is currently playing 12x9, 16x16, 22x18, 14x5 (nickel plated brass or US maple shell). As is usual with most sessions this was only required at the studio for one day. We delivered and set early in the morning and then went back that night to collect the kit. According to Ralph and the amount of musicians involved on this session it was a full score for a forthcoming film. Unfortunately we didn’t ask what the title was! Jerry Brown at Eastcote Studios
This was a set-up for Jerry Brown at Eastcote Studios, Ladbroke Grove. He’s using a Pearl MMX kit (4ply maple w/re-enforcement rings, die-cast hoops). Sizes are 10x10, 16x16 (mounted via a Pearl Optimount suspension system), 22x16, 13x7S. Cymbals are a mix of Zildjian. The kit was in for a couple of days. Jerry also played bass guitar on this session! Neal Wilkinson at Air Lyndhurst Studios
This was a session with Neal Wilkinson at Air Lyndhurst studios, Hampstead. Neal used his Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute kit in the following set-up: 12x8, 14x14, 16x16, 22x16. Neal carries a lot of different snare drums to each session, a mix of old Ludwig and Slingerland plus a couple of new Yamaha drums – usually around five or six drums in total. Cymbals are a mix of Zildjian. We needed to get this kit in and set early. This was a short session so we were back within a few hours collecting the kit. Ian Thomas at Abbey RoadIan Thomas has been using his white Yamaha 9000 series kit set up in Studio 2 at Abbey Road. The set-up is 10x10, 12x10, 13x10, 15x13, 22x18. For this session Ian had his ‘main’ two snare drums – a 60’s shell Ludwig 400 plus a current production line 402. Both drums are chrome over brass shell. Cymbals are a mix of Zildjian. We had a relaxed set up the day before the session was due to start as the studio was empty. We had to set this kit in a really tight booth constructed of mobile partition boards, there really wasn’t much room! McFly
We’ve been with McFly in both rehearsals and in Dublin for a Childline charity concert. This is the Gretsch US Maple shell set used by Harry Judd. The set up is 10x8, 12x9, 14x11, 22x18. The snare drum is a Pearl MMX 14x6.5 or we’ll use 14x7 nickel plated brass drum from Drum Paradise, California. Cymbals are a mix of Sabian. |
